How do I dispose of paint from my business?
Keep leftover paint in sealed, labelled containers and arrange collection by a registered waste carrier. Do not put liquid paint in general waste or pour it down a drain. We collect waste paint and tins from businesses across the UK and give you the paperwork that shows it was disposed of properly.
Is paint classed as hazardous waste?
Solvent-based and oil-based paint is usually classed as hazardous waste because of the solvents and chemicals it contains. Water-based paint is often non-hazardous, but liquid paint of any type cannot go to landfill. If you are unsure, tell us the paint type and we will advise.
Can I put paint tins in a skip or general waste?
Not if they contain liquid paint. Liquid paint cannot go to landfill, and tins with wet paint or sludge are often hazardous waste. Empty tins with only dried residue can usually be recycled. For anything else, arrange a waste paint collection with a licensed carrier.
Can paint tins be recycled?
Yes, in many cases. Empty metal tins with only dried residue can be recycled as scrap metal, and some plastic containers can be recycled as packaging. Tins holding wet paint need to be disposed of as hazardous waste. We recycle tins and containers wherever it is safe to do so.
How do I dispose of spray paint cans?
Spray paint cans are pressurised and may contain solvents, so keep them away from heat and out of general waste. We collect spray paint as part of our paint disposal service, and our aerosol can recycling service covers larger quantities of other aerosols.
Is there a minimum quantity for paint collection?
No minimum is set. We collect large quantities of paint from manufacturers and contractors, and small amounts from offices and workshops. Tell us roughly how much you have and we will reply with a quote. A photo of the waste helps us price the collection accurately.
