What Polycarbonate We Collect

Polycarbonate (PC) is a clear, very tough plastic that falls under resin code 7. It is chosen where a material needs to resist impact, so it turns up in buildings, vehicles, machinery and protective equipment.

How Polycarbonate Recycling Works

  1. 01

    Tell us what you have.

Use the quote form to give the type of polycarbonate, rough quantity, how it is stored and your collection postcode. A photo helps.
  2. 02

    Get your quote.

Our team replies with a quote providing clear pricing details.
  3. 03

    We collect.

A verified waste carrier from our haulage network collects on an agreed date, as a one-off clearance or on a regular schedule.
  4. 04

    Recycling.

At a licensed recycling facility, polycarbonate is sorted from other plastics and washed to remove adhesives and coatings. Clean material is shredded, melted and pelletised. Mixed or coated material can be broken down chemically into its base chemicals.
  5. 05

    Paperwork.

You receive a waste transfer note for each collection.

Why Polycarbonate Recycling Matters

Polycarbonate is long-lasting and does not break down in landfill. It is also a high-value engineering plastic, so recycling it reduces the need to make new material. Recycled polycarbonate goes back into automotive parts, construction products and moulded components.

Under section 34 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, your business must store waste safely, use authorised carriers and keep waste transfer notes for at least 2 years.

If your polycarbonate is part of assembled electrical equipment, it counts as WEEE and must go through our electronic waste recycling service.

Polycarbonate Recycling FAQs

Ask our team
Is polycarbonate recyclable?

Yes. Polycarbonate is a thermoplastic, so clean material can be shredded, melted and remoulded, and mixed or coated material can be recycled chemically. It is not accepted in most general recycling, so businesses need a specialist collection that keeps polycarbonate separate from other plastics.

How is polycarbonate recycled?

Polycarbonate is sorted from other plastics and washed to remove adhesives, films and coatings. Clean material is mechanically recycled: shredded, melted and formed into pellets. More complex or contaminated material can go through chemical recycling, which breaks it down into base chemicals for new plastic.

What recycling number is polycarbonate?

Polycarbonate falls under resin identification code 7, "other plastics". Sheet and moulded parts are often also marked PC, which is the clearest way to identify it. Because code 7 covers many different plastics, the PC marking or a photo helps us confirm the material.

Can polycarbonate roofing sheets be recycled?

Yes. Solid and twin-wall polycarbonate roofing and conservatory sheet can be recycled once fixings, seals, end caps and aluminium glazing bars are removed. Stack the sheets and keep them free of other waste. Tell us the rough number and size of sheets when you request a quote.

What is the difference between polycarbonate and acrylic?

Both are clear, rigid plastics under resin code 7, but polycarbonate is far more impact resistant and slightly flexible, while acrylic is more rigid and can crack. They need different recycling routes, so keep them apart. If you are unsure which you have, send us a photo.

Can you collect polycarbonate offcuts from fabrication?
