Why it matters
The Benefits Of Recycling PVC
Recycling PVC waste keeps a durable plastic in circulation for decades rather than centuries. Regrind from windows, pipes and profiles returns directly into new building products, cutting disposal costs and demand for virgin PVC.

Can PVC be recycled?
Yes. PVC can be recycled when it is collected separately and kept clean. Rigid uPVC from windows, doors, guttering and downpipe is well suited to recycling. It is turned into flake or granule and used to make new PVC products. Mixing it with other plastics or general waste makes recycling much harder.
What is the difference between PVC and uPVC?
uPVC is unplasticised PVC. It has no added plasticisers, so it is rigid and strong, which is why it is used for window frames, doors, guttering and downpipe. Flexible PVC contains plasticisers and is used for products such as cable sheathing and flooring. Both carry resin code 3.
How do I recycle old uPVC windows?
Keep old uPVC window frames separate from other site waste and tell us how many you have, whether the glass is still in and where they are. Send photos with your quote request. Our team will confirm the details and arrange collection by a verified waste carrier.
Can PVC pipe be recycled?
Yes. PVC guttering and downpipe can be recycled with other rigid PVC. Keep pipe clean and free of soil, sealant and other materials where you can. Large rigid pieces can be collected without baling, so tell us the rough lengths and quantity when you ask for a quote.
Why shouldn't PVC go in with other plastics?
PVC contains chlorine and behaves differently from other plastics when melted. Small amounts mixed into other plastic streams, such as PET, can spoil the recycled material. Keeping PVC separate protects the value of your other plastic waste and gives the PVC itself the best chance of being recycled.
Who collects uPVC waste from builders and window fitters?
National Recycling collects uPVC and PVC waste from builders, window fitters, roofers and demolition contractors across the UK. We arrange collection through our network of haulage partners and send the material to licensed recycling facilities, with a waste transfer note for each collection.
