Scrap Cable Recycling: Recovering Copper and Plastic
Most electrical cable has a copper core inside a plastic sheath. Copper is a valuable metal that can be recycled again and again, and the plastic insulation can also be recovered. Sending cable to landfill wastes both materials.

Can electrical cables be recycled?
Yes. Electrical cables can be recycled by separating the copper or other metal core from the plastic insulation. Both materials can then be recovered and used again. We collect cables, leads and wiring from businesses across the UK and send them to licensed recycling facilities for recycling.
How do I dispose of old cables from my business?
Keep old cables separate from general waste, ideally bagged or boxed together. Then send us the cable types, a rough quantity and your collection postcode through our quote form. Our team confirms the details and arranges collection by a licensed carrier, with waste transfer notes for your records.
What happens to scrap cable when it is recycled?
At the recycling facility, the cable is processed so the copper and other metals are separated from the plastic sheath. The metal goes back into manufacturing and the plastic is recovered where possible. This keeps valuable materials in use and out of landfill.
Do you collect network and data cabling?
Yes. We collect patch leads, data cabling and other network cable from offices, comms rooms and data centres. If you are clearing a whole server room, we can also collect the servers and network equipment, and our data centre decommissioning service covers larger projects.
Can I put cables in the general waste?
No. Leads and cables from electrical equipment fall under the WEEE Regulations, so they should be collected separately and recycled. Cables in general waste can also end up in landfill, where the copper and plastic are lost. Keep them in a separate container until collection.
