What Nylon We Collect

Nylon (polyamide, often shown as PA6 or PA66) is a tough, wear-resistant plastic that falls under resin code 7. It is used both as an engineering plastic and as a fibre.

How Nylon Recycling Works

  1. 01

    Tell us what you have.

Use the quote form to give the type of nylon, rough quantity, how it is stored and your collection postcode. A photo helps.
  2. 02

    Get your quote.

Our team replies with a quote providing clear pricing details.
  3. 03

    We collect.

A verified waste carrier from our haulage network collects on an agreed date, as a one-off or on a regular schedule.
  4. 04

    Recycling.

At a licensed recycling facility, clean single-grade nylon is shredded, washed and melted into pellets. Mixed or dirtier nylon can be broken down chemically into its building blocks, purified and made into new nylon.
  5. 05

    Paperwork.

You receive a waste transfer note for each collection.

Why Nylon Recycling Matters

Nylon is energy-intensive to make from new raw materials and does not break down in landfill. Recycling it keeps that material in use and reduces the demand for new production. Recycled nylon goes back into textiles, engineering parts and industrial products.

Under section 34 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, your business must store waste safely, use authorised carriers and keep waste transfer notes for at least 2 years. In England, Simpler Recycling has required workplaces with 10 or more employees to separate dry recyclables, including plastic, since 31 March 2025.

Nylon Recycling FAQs

Ask our team
Can nylon be recycled?

Yes. Nylon is a thermoplastic, so clean nylon can be melted and remade, and mixed or contaminated nylon can be recycled chemically. It is not accepted in most general recycling, so businesses need a specialist collection that keeps nylon separate and sends it to a reprocessor that handles it.

How is nylon recycled?

There are two main routes. Mechanical recycling sorts, shreds, washes and melts clean nylon into pellets for new products. Chemical recycling breaks nylon down into its original building blocks, which are purified and made into new nylon. Chemical recycling suits mixed or contaminated waste such as old nets and carpet.

What recycling code is nylon?

Nylon falls under resin identification code 7, "other plastics". Moulded parts are often also marked PA, PA6 or PA66, which tells a reprocessor exactly which type of nylon it is. Keeping different grades apart where you can makes the material easier to recycle.

Can old fishing nets and rope be recycled?

Yes. Nylon nets and rope can be recycled, and the chemical route can turn them back into nylon yarn. Remove floats, weights and other attachments where possible and keep nets as free of sand and debris as you can. Send us a photo and rough quantity for a quote.

Do you collect nylon production waste?

Yes. We collect offcuts, rejects, sprues and regrind from injection moulding, extrusion and machining, as well as fabric and yarn waste from textile production. Keep it clean, bagged or boxed by grade, and separate from other plastics. Collections can be one-off or on a regular schedule.
